About Me

​With over 30 years of experience in teaching, I’ve had the privilege of guiding young minds, primarily in South Auckland, and a  five year stint in the UK in the 1990s.  Most recently, I was fortunate to spend my final 13 years at Snells Beach Primary School, where I was an Associate Principal, and also part of the foundation team that helped establish the school.

In 2022, I stepped out of teaching and began part -time, private tutoring, based in my home in Algies Bay.

​

My specialty lies in teaching senior primary (Years 5 - 8); however, I’ve taught and tutored a range of levels, from Year 3 to Year 9, focusing on Math and Literacy.

​

I consider myself a bit of an "old school" educator, using hands-on methods like whiteboards, cards, and bookwork, alongside plenty of "sneaky learning games."

My philosophy is simple: repetition, repetition, repetition.

​

In recent years, I stepped into a new challenge, working part-time in administration. This career change reminded me just how different every learner is, and how crucial it is to take things slowly, steady, and with plenty of repetition. These are lessons we sometimes rush past in the classroom, but are vital for truly mastering any new skill.

 

My true strength is building strong relationships with students and helping them discover their confidence. I love to find out what makes each student ‘tick’ and work with them until they shine.
